April 15th, 2000 – Present.

Still going strong, baby. Heh.

Yeah. I’ve had this baby for awhile now. So let’s go way back and trace her life, yeah?

So first things first – I was a huge, obsessive, teeny boppery BSB fan. Brian was my number one, Nick was my second favorite… I wanted to marry those two. I discovered fanfic accidentally. My first Nick fanfic read no longer resides on the web… but I thought it was the best damn thing ever. To create a story, better yet… a love story, with the guy I was madly in love with? Think of the possibilities. I was inspired. And so it began… I started to write fanfic during the peak of Backstreet’s Millennium explosion (1999).

My very first fic was Back To Your Heart (1999), a Brian fic. Of course, reading it now… it’s the most juvenile piece of writing ever and if I showed any of my English professors that piece… they’d probably roll all over the floor. But alas, it was my baby. I wrote a few pieces following that >> Someone To Love, BTYH’s sequel. And the ever so popular “On A Shooting Star” (Nick *gasp* dies in that one). I had no knowledge of HTML, so I submitted it to various BSB fanfic sites to be hosted. My popularity grew there. I was paranoid of people I knew finding out about what I loved to do, so I chose my alias “Duckie” (affectionately thought of after Brian’s kid nickname, of course =)).

When I got my first rejection to be hosted from a very busy, but super nice, webmistress… she emailed me back, telling me she loved my stories and suggested I make my own site, since I had three novel length fics already. So I learned a bit of HTML and created a very simplified website. Since then, I added new effects, new graphics, new (stolen, lol) codes to it and a solid year later… I was proud to announce that my site – The Enchanted Backstreets – was a hit. I reached my first 10,000 hit counter in a matter of months (huge accomplishment for me) and was widely linked around at every Backstreet site.

Time passed by, and my writing began to (slowly) mature. I kept everything at geocities, but moved my site around to numerous domains.

2000-2001: Geocities
2001: Envy.nu, until Envy got totally messed up with their new company
2001: Decided to move back into Geocities
2003: applied and got accepted to be hosted at crimson-love.net
June 2003: crimson-love.net shuts down, my buddy Anna graciously let me move in with her @ swept-away.net.

Sometime around January-February of 2004, Anna quits her domain. She basically throws it away and doesn’t want it anymore. So poof went Enchanted. At this point in time, all was very, VERY quiet on the Backstreet front. I was a freshman in college, very busy with my life. And basically… there was very little inspiration in my life to write Backstreet fanfic. I was lacking feedback like no other, and had fallen into Backstreet withdrawal, it was the most depressing thing.

So I took my very, very first hiatus.

And finally, after four years. The site began to change. I literally closed down Enchanted Backstreets. I sent out an update to my readers telling them to wait for me, because as much as I wasn’t feeling it at the moment… I didn’t have the heart to leave the fandom, and definitely not to quit writing. I knew I still loved Backstreet. I knew I still loved writing. And I still knew that I loved, love my site to death.

I began dabbling in the Harry Potter fanfic world, which graciously let me in. I fell in love. And when I fell – I fell hard. I was getting as much feedback from HP fans as I was during the peak of my BSB fanfic career, and I was loving it. I realized during this period in my life, how much I still LOVED to write. And I knew things would never go back to the way they used to be, when I was widely known all over Backstreet web as the lovely “Duckie” who wrote the “best fics, ever.” Because I wasn’t the it girl anymore. I wasn’t the most popular, trendiest looking site on the web. I never will be. And I’m completely fine with that. My drive is still here. My love for writing is still here. And my passion for my characters has finally come back.

Welcome to Street Scribbles. The next chapter, you could say. All the Backstreet will stay with me. You might bump into a Harry Potter character now and then. And last but not least… my writings will be here. I have more pride, I have more skill, and I have more passion than ever for writing. And I can bet that I’m barely known on this wide web and in the Backstreet world. People have changed. Things changed. And time progresses. As will my writing, and as I will.

So join me, won’t you? Come along for the ride.

And maybe pick up a couple (hopefully) good reads along the way. Writing is my life, and knowing that it touches yours… means the absolute world to me.

:)
